My Story

Ibrahim is a bright and caring young boy living with his parents and his twin brother in Northern Iraq. Though he was born after his family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State, the effects of war and displacement still shape their daily lives. Today, they continue to live as refugees, working hard to build a life in a new and unfamiliar place.

Ibrahim loves going to school and looks forward to learning each day. English is his favorite subject, though Kurdish class can sometimes be a bit challenging. His favorite color is yellow, and he has a special love for birds. When it comes to food, nothing beats Dolma — a traditional Iraqi dish made with stuffed grape leaves and vegetables.

When Ibrahim isn’t studying, you’ll probably find him playing soccer with his friends. At home, he likes to help his mom by cleaning his room and washing the dishes — doing his part to care for his family.

Life in Northern Iraq is not easy. The region continues to feel the impact of war and instability. Many families struggle to find steady work, clean water, or enough food. Christians, like Ibrahim’s family, make up only a small part of the population, and sometimes this can bring added challenges and safety concerns.

Even with these hardships, Ibrahim’s life is full of hope, love, and resilience. He dreams of a brighter future and believes that, no matter what, God is watching over him and his family.
