My Story

Ellis is a smart and kind-hearted young boy living with his parents and his twin brother in Northern Iraq. His family was forced to flee Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State — even before Ellis was born. Today, they continue to live as refugees, working hard to build a life in a new place far from their home.

Ellis enjoys going to school and especially loves math! Arabic class can feel a little tricky sometimes, but he’s always eager to learn and try his best. His favorite color is blue, and he has a special love for birds. And when it comes to food, nothing beats a slice of pizza — his absolute favorite!

Most days after school, you’ll find Ellis outside playing soccer with his friends — one of his favorite ways to have fun. At home, he helps his mom by picking up his toys and keeping his room tidy.

Life in Northern Iraq is not without its challenges. Many families, like Ellis’s, are still feeling the effects of war. Jobs are hard to find, clean water and food aren’t always guaranteed, and the region continues to face instability. Being a Christian in a mostly Muslim country can also bring added difficulties and safety concerns.

Even so, Ellis holds onto hope. He loves his family, enjoys school, and believes that God is always with him, even in hard times.
