My Story

Alice is a sweet and joyful kindergartener living in Baghdad, Iraq, with her parents and younger brother. Though she was born after her family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the Islamic State, she has grown up as a refugee, facing the challenges of life far from her family's original home.

Alice enjoys going to school, especially spending time with her friends and learning new things. Her favorite color is yellow, and she absolutely loves cats — they’re her favorite animal! When it comes to food, nothing beats dolma, a traditional Iraqi dish made with stuffed vegetables. Her hero is Cinderella, and she dreams of kindness and happy endings, just like in her favorite story.

At home, Alice helps her mom by picking up her toys and keeping her space neat. She also loves going to Sunday School, where she learns songs and stories from the Bible.

Life in Iraq is full of beauty, tradition, and family — from delicious food to joyful celebrations. But there are also many challenges. Jobs are hard to find, clean water and food can be scarce, and the government is often unstable. Christians are a small minority in Iraq, and it’s not always safe to live openly as a Christian.
