The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
Adra is a bright and determined young girl living in Northern Iraq with her parents. Her family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the Islamic State, and they have been living as refugees ever since. Despite the hardships they’ve faced, Adra continues to dream big — she hopes to become a doctor one day so she can help others.
Adra’s favorite subject in school is English, and she loves learning new words and reading. Arabic can be a bit difficult for her, but she works hard and doesn’t give up. Her favorite color is pink, and she loves dogs. When it comes to food, a warm bowl of soup is her favorite comfort meal. She also enjoys reading and listening to stories that spark her imagination.
At home, Adra helps her mom with cleaning and takes pride in keeping their home neat and welcoming. Her caring heart and quiet determination make her a joy to be around.
Life in Iraq is full of beauty — strong family bonds, cultural traditions, and joyful celebrations — but for refugee families like Adra’s, it can also be very difficult. The government is unstable, jobs are limited, and many families struggle to find food and clean water. Christians are a small minority in Iraq, and it’s not always safe to openly follow their faith.
Even so, Adra finds peace in knowing that God loves her and will always take care of her. That promise gives her strength and hope every day.
Sponsorship can help provide Adra with the education, care, and encouragement she needs to keep reaching for her dreams.
