My Story

Oliver is a bright and energetic young boy living in Northern Iraq with his parents and three brothers. Though he was born after his family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the Islamic State, Oliver has grown up as a refugee — surrounded by love but facing many challenges.

Oliver enjoys school and looks forward to Arabic class, which is his favorite subject! Science can be a bit tough for him, but he works hard and does his best. His favorite color is pink, and he loves lions for their strength and courage. When it comes to food, grilled meat is his favorite, and playing soccer with his friends is one of the highlights of his day.

At home, Oliver helps his mom by cleaning and doing his part to keep their space neat and tidy. He’s a helpful and caring son, always eager to lend a hand.

Life in Iraq is rich with tradition, strong family ties, and joyful celebrations. But it also comes with challenges — an unstable government, a lack of job opportunities, and at times, difficulty accessing food and clean water. Christians are a small minority in Iraq, and it’s not always safe to openly practice their faith.

Even so, Oliver finds peace and strength in his belief that God loves him and will always take care of him — especially when things are hard.
