The Lord's Prayer
Divar is a motivated and thoughtful teenager living in Northern Iraq with his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. His family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State, and they have lived as refugees ever since. Now in his mid-teens, Divar carries a deep sense of responsibility and a strong desire to make a difference — he hopes to become a doctor one day.
Divar is doing well in school and enjoys learning, especially in his favorite subject, English. He works hard in all of his classes and takes his education seriously, knowing that it’s key to reaching his goals. His favorite color is yellow, and he loves dogs. When it comes to food, grilled meat is his favorite. In his free time, Divar enjoys riding bikes and playing soccer with friends — staying active and connected with others.
At home, Divar helps with the family shopping, a task that reflects his dependable and mature nature. He plays an important role in supporting his household.
Life in Iraq has many beautiful aspects — rich traditions, strong family bonds, and vibrant celebrations — but there are also serious challenges. The country continues to face political instability, a lack of job opportunities, and difficulty accessing food and clean water. Christians are a small minority here, and families like Divar’s must navigate the added difficulty of practicing their faith in a place where it’s not always safe to do so.
Even in the midst of these hardships, Divar finds strength in knowing that God loves him and will never leave him. His determination, faith, and compassion give him hope for a better future.
Sponsorship can help Divar continue his education and take important steps toward his dream of becoming a doctor — while reminding him that he is supported and not alone.
