A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34
Mariam is a kind and determined young girl living in Iraq with her parents and two brothers. In 2014, her family fled their hometown to escape the violence of the Islamic State. After many years living as refugees in Northern Iraq, they are now working to resettle in their original community and begin rebuilding their lives.
Mariam enjoys school and especially loves Arabic class, where she feels confident and engaged. English can be more challenging, but she works hard and keeps trying. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day so she can help others learn and grow. Her favorite color is red, and she loves cats. Her favorite cartoon is Masha and the Bear, a story that always makes her smile. When she’s not studying, she enjoys playing volleyball with friends.
At home, Mariam helps her mother by cleaning her room and doing the laundry. She’s responsible, caring, and always ready to lend a hand.
Iraq is a country rich in tradition, family bonds, and celebrations. But for families like Mariam’s, life is still full of challenges — from political instability and limited job opportunities to difficulty accessing food and clean water. Christians are a small minority here, and living out their faith isn’t always safe.
Even so, Mariam finds strength in knowing that God loves her and will always take care of her. Her hopeful heart and gentle spirit shine through each day.
Sponsorship can help support Mariam’s education and give her the tools she needs to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher and building a brighter future.
