My Story

My name is Jorge. My family fled Syria in 2014 because of the Islamic State, before I was born, and now we live in North Iraq as refugees. I live with my parents and my sister. This region has gone through many years of war, and many families like mine are still facing difficult conditions.

I like going to school, and my favorite subject is Math. Sometimes I find Kurdish language classes a little hard, but I keep trying to learn. My favorite color is black, and I really like cats. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and watching Tom & Jerry.

At home, I help my mom by cleaning and helping around the house. Even though life can be challenging, Iraq is special to us. People here love their families, traditions, good food, and celebrations.

There are also many struggles, such as an unstable government, few jobs, and sometimes it is difficult to find enough food and clean water. Most people in Iraq are Muslims, and there are very few Christians, so it is not always safe to be a Christian here. I like hearing about how much God loves me, and it comforts me to know that He will always take care of me.
