My Story

Hi! My name is Shahad. I live in Northern Iraq with my mommy, daddy, and my brother. My family had to leave our home in Syria in 2014 because of the war with the Islamic State. That was before I was born, but we are still refugees here.

I like going to school and playing with my friends. My favorite subject is Math, but Kurdish class is hard for me sometimes. My favorite color is pink, and I love dogs. One of my favorite games is playing Uno with my friends and family.

I help my mom by cleaning my room and sometimes helping her cook. Life here can be difficult. Iraq has seen many years of war, and many families like ours are still suffering. Sometimes it is hard to find good jobs, food, or clean water.

Even though life can be hard, Iraq is still a special place. We love our families, our traditions, good food, and celebrating together. Most people here are Muslims, and only a few people are Christians, so it is not always safe to follow Jesus.

But I like learning that God loves me and will always take care of me.
