My Story

My name is Mirnas. I live in North Iraq with my parents, my brother, and my sister. My family fled the Islamic State in 2014, and we are still living here as refugees. This part of the country has experienced many years of war, and many families like mine are still facing difficult conditions.

I enjoy going to school and learning new things. Math is my favorite subject, but Syriac language classes can be a little hard for me sometimes. My favorite color is yellow, and I really like dogs. My favorite food is chicken. When I have free time, I enjoy playing soccer with my friends.

At home, I help my mom by carrying the groceries and helping with small chores. Even though life can be challenging, Iraq is still special to us. People here love their families, traditions, good food, and joyful celebrations.

There are also many problems, like an unstable government, very few jobs, and sometimes it is difficult to find enough food and clean water. Most people in Iraq are Muslims, and there are very few Christians, so it is not always safe to be a Christian here. I like hearing that God loves me, and it gives me hope to know that He will always take care of me.
