My Story

My name is Dlwar. My family is Yazidi, and we fled from the Islamic State in 2014 before I was born. Today we are still living in North Iraq as refugees. I live with my parents, my two brothers, and my sister. This area has experienced many years of war, and many families like ours are still trying to recover and rebuild our lives.

I go to school and enjoy learning. Math is my favorite subject, but Science can be a little difficult for me sometimes. My favorite color is black, and I really like cats. When I have free time, I enjoy playing soccer and spending time with my friends. My favorite hero is Spiderman.

At home, I try to help my mom by cleaning my room and doing small chores. Even though life can be challenging, Iraq is still special to us. People here love their families, traditions, good food, and celebrations.

There are also many difficulties in our country. The government is unstable, jobs are hard to find, and sometimes families struggle to get enough food and clean water. Most people in Iraq are Muslims, and there are very few Christians, so it is not always safe to be a Christian here. I like hearing that God loves me, and it gives me comfort to believe that He will always take care of me.
