My Story

I'm Safaa, and I'm a refugee. My family and I had to run from the war in Sudan, and now we call Cairo, Egypt, home. It isn't easy. My dad abandoned us, so it's just my mom raising me and my six brothers and sisters on her own.

I still think about Sudan. Did you know it used to be part of Egypt, and it has more pyramids than Egypt does? My capital city, Khartoum, is where the Blue Nile and White Nile rivers meet to form the Nile River. The war split my country into two, and that's why my family had to leave.

School is one of my favorite things, especially English class. Arabic is tougher for me, but I keep trying. White is my favorite color, dogs make me so happy, and I could eat chicken every day. I play soccer whenever I get the chance, and I help my mom keep our home clean. Batman is my favorite superhero, and I'd love to be as brave as him.

Here in Egypt, most people are Muslim, and Christians are a small minority. It isn't always safe to be a Christian here. But through the Child Sponsorship Program, I'm learning about God's love, growing in my faith, and holding on to hope for my future.
