My Story

Marzina and his family had to flee from the Islamic State in 2014, and they are still refugees in North Iraq. Marzina shares a home with his parents, three sisters, and brother. He dreams of becoming a pastor one day, and his favorite subject in school is English, although he finds Arabic classes challenging. When it comes to colors, Marzina's top pick is red, and he has a soft spot for rabbits as his favorite animal. As for food, he finds comfort in a warm bowl of ramen noodles. Marzina loves playing soccer and spending time outdoors, embracing the joys of being outside. He also lends a hand to his mom by helping with household chores, particularly cleaning.

Living as a refugee in Iraq comes with its own set of difficulties. The country grapples with an unstable government, limited job opportunities, and sporadic access to food and clean water. Being a Christian in a predominantly Muslim society poses additional challenges, as it is not always safe to openly practice one's faith.

Nevertheless, Marzina finds solace in the belief that God loves him unconditionally and will always take care of him. This faith provides him with strength and hope, even in the midst of the hardships endured as a refugee.

Marzina's story sheds light on the struggles faced by refugees in Iraq. It underscores the importance of recognizing their resilience and extending support to those who have been uprooted from their homes. By showing compassion and understanding, we can work towards a future where refugees like Marzina find safety, stability, and opportunities to thrive.
