My Story

Andryan and his family were forced to flee the Islamic State in 2014, and they have since become refugees residing in North Iraq. In their current situation, Andryan resides with his parents, three brothers, and a sister. Education is of great importance to Andryan, and he particularly enjoys his Arabic classes, although he encounters difficulties with English. His favorite color is blue, and he holds a fondness for dogs as his preferred animal companion. When it comes to food, Andryan's preference leans towards beef. In his leisure time, he finds joy in playing soccer alongside his friends. Moreover, Andryan actively assists his mother with household chores, such as cleaning his room and taking care of the dishes.

Living as a refugee in Iraq presents numerous challenges. The nation faces an unstable government, limited employment opportunities, and occasional scarcity of basic necessities, such as food and clean water. Furthermore, Iraq predominantly practices Islam, making it less secure for individuals of Christian faith like Andryan and his family. Nevertheless, Andryan draws solace from his faith and the understanding that God's unwavering love and protection are with him throughout the difficulties of being a refugee.

Andryan's story exemplifies the resilience and fortitude exhibited by refugees in the face of adversity. Despite the hardships, they hold onto their cherished family ties, cultural traditions, and the simple joys of shared meals and festive celebrations. It is our collective responsibility to extend compassion and support to refugees, ensuring that they find safety, acceptance, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Together, we can foster a world where every individual is valued, protected, and empowered.
