My Story

Vian is a bright and determined young girl living in Northern Iraq with her parents and three brothers. Her family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State, and they have been living as refugees ever since. Despite the hardships they’ve faced, Vian has a kind heart and a big dream — she hopes to become a teacher one day.

At school, Vian’s favorite subject is math, where she enjoys solving problems and working through challenges. Arabic class is a bit harder for her, but she works hard and never gives up. Her favorite color is pink, and she loves monkeys — they always make her smile! Kabah, a flavorful Iraqi dish, is her favorite food. Vian also enjoys listening to music and playing soccer with her friends.

At home, she helps her mother with cleaning and does her part to take care of her family. She’s thoughtful and responsible — qualities that will serve her well as a future teacher.

Life in Iraq is full of strong traditions, joyful celebrations, and close-knit families. But for refugee families like Vian’s, it’s also filled with difficulties. The government is unstable, jobs are scarce, and sometimes even food and clean water are hard to come by. Christians are a small minority in Iraq, and it’s not always safe to live openly as a believer.

Even in the face of these challenges, Vian finds hope in her faith. She loves hearing that God is always with her and will never leave her — especially during the hardest times.

Sponsorship can help Vian stay in school, pursue her dreams, and know she is loved and supported every step of the way.
