My Story

Hanan is a cheerful and bright young girl living in Northern Iraq with her parents, brother, and sister. Her family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State — before Hanan was born — and they have been living as refugees ever since.

Hanan enjoys going to school and loves Arabic class, where she’s growing more confident in her reading and writing. Syriac language classes are more difficult for her, but she works hard and keeps trying. Her favorite color is pink, and she loves cats! When it comes to food, she especially enjoys biryani — a flavorful Iraqi dish that’s one of her favorites. She also loves playing soccer with her friends after school.

At home, Hanan helps her mom by cleaning and doing her part to take care of their home. She’s responsible, kind, and always ready to lend a hand.

Iraq is a country rich with culture, family traditions, and joyful celebrations. But life is also difficult — the government is unstable, jobs are scarce, and at times, families struggle to access enough food and clean water. Christians are a small minority in Iraq, and for families like Hanan’s, living out their faith isn’t always safe.

Even with these challenges, Hanan finds peace in knowing that God loves her and will always be with her. Her faith brings comfort and courage, even when life is hard.

Sponsorship can help support Hanan’s education, daily needs, and provide the encouragement she needs to keep learning, growing, and holding onto hope.
