Lavin is a creative and joyful young girl living in Northern Iraq with her parents and brother. Her family fled Syria in 2014 to escape the violence of the Islamic State — before Lavin was born — and they’ve been living as refugees ever since.
Lavin dreams of becoming an artist someday. Her favorite subject in school is art, where she loves to draw and express herself with color and imagination. Math can be a little tricky for her, but she’s learning and doing her best. Her favorite color is green, and she loves dogs. When it comes to food, Lavin especially enjoys traditional Iraqi meals — they make her feel happy and at home. She also enjoys listening to music and going swimming whenever she gets the chance.
Life in Iraq is full of beautiful traditions, strong family ties, and joyful celebrations. But for refugee families like Lavin’s, it can also be very hard. The government is unstable, jobs are limited, and families sometimes struggle to access enough food and clean water. Christians are a small minority, and it’s not always safe for families like Lavin’s to live out their faith openly.
Even in the face of difficulty, Lavin finds peace in knowing that God loves her and will always take care of her. Her gentle spirit and artistic heart bring joy to everyone around her.
Sponsorship can help Lavin continue her education, grow in confidence, and take hopeful steps toward her dream of becoming an artist.
