My Story

Michael's family, having fled from the Islamic State prior to his birth in 2014, has been striving to resettle in their old hometown after spending several years as refugees in North Iraq. He resides with his parents and sister, and he currently attends second grade.

In the vibrant tapestry of Michael's preferences, his favorite color is black, exuding a sense of mystery and allure. Dogs hold a special place in his heart as his favorite animals, while Spiderman captivates his imagination as his beloved superhero. Engaging in spirited soccer matches with his friends brings him joy and camaraderie. As an attentive and helpful child, Michael contributes to the household by diligently picking up his toys, lightening his mother's load.

Living in Iraq as a refugee, Michael witnesses the resilience and love of the people around him. The country holds a special significance, with a deep appreciation for cherished family bonds, rich traditions, and the joyous festivities that bring communities together. However, they also face a range of challenges, including an unstable government, limited job opportunities, and occasional scarcity of food and clean water. It's important to note that while the majority of Iraq's population follows the Islamic faith, Christians form a small minority, and the safety of Christians can sometimes be uncertain.

Through it all, Michael and his family demonstrate strength and determination in the face of adversity, finding solace in their shared experiences and faith. They embrace the belief that love, compassion, and unity can prevail, even in the most challenging circumstances.
